Autumn Has Landed

Probably the best time of year for landscape photography - Autumn.

With the trees changing to those stunning warm tones I just had to get out for another photography adventure. The usual planning of checking weather forecasts and tide times made the coast doubtful, so this time a nice inland trip was on the cards. The Peak District is the closest of the National parks to home yet its probably one of the ones I’ve explored the least, that’s something I aim to put right over the next few months.

First location of the day was a revisit, to Robin Hood’s stride and the Grey Ladies (Nine Stones Close) standing stones. This ancient stone circle sits next to a lovely old wall and an equally lovely old tree. Having walked around looking for compositions, I settled on two. The first with the tree dead centre flanked by the stones to give some symmetry and the second composition from much further away. This required the 70-200mm lens to capture the scene. with the aperture wide open a f 2.8, it allowed the background hills to be just out of focus and made the tree and stones stand out as the main focal point.

Then on to Monsal Dale Weir.

Here the woodland was a riot of colour. I used the 24-70 f 4 lens on the Z7 to zoom in on the cascade and along with a 10 stop ND filter managed to get nice slow shutter speeds to give me the silky water effect I wanted to achieve. The image above is a blend of a 1/6 and 30 second exposure.
